NEW WISCONSIN DISC GOLF TOUR TOURNAMENTS

Joining the tour this year will be 4th Annual Shoot The Moon taking place at Veterans Hills in Viroqua, WI. The VFW has been very kind in blessing use of land for an 18-hole disc golf course. The property is a mix of thick woods and open areas among hilly terrain of varying degree. Technical, uphill, downhill, tight woods and big open spaces force you to use your entire bag of discs as well as your bag of tricks. Real golf placement is required on many throws. Make sure to get the birdie holes. Playing this course blind will cost some extra strokes.

The course is great for the tour. Add camping on site, the VFW building with shelter for meeting and player gatherings, with food and a bar full of beverage. Can you ask for more? Not far away are plenty of food and lodging options. There is a very nice food coop for shopping and prepared eats down town. Not to far out of town are county camping parks.

The local disc golfers have been working on the course and tournaments hosted on the course for years. The sponsorships provided to tournaments held at Veterans Hills have been noticeable over the past three years. The WI Tour is happy to host another stop in WI southwest driftless area as local players are growing in numbers to help support local events. The 7 Rivers Disc Golf Club is a reason for positive disc golf growth now and into the future.

Highbridge is also on the WI Disc Golf Tour in August. New management has freed the ban of the PDGA and now the PDGA will sanction tournaments there. This is what we have been waiting for. Tom Wincse has taken this incredible set of courses out of a half way project and hopefully can realize a dream many disc golfers have been waiting for. Highbridge Hills offers a number of challenging and fun courses on a most incredible and beautiful property that will be playable whenever we wish to play it. As in grass cut well enough to be able to see where your disc lands.

Former owner Jon Jokenen built the courses with much free labor and his earth moving machines and direction from designer Chuck Kennedy. Jon is very skilled with the earth movers. Chuck may have designed courses as good elsewhere but not better. These courses are as good as Wisconsin has to offer or as good as Earth has to offer. There are quite a few as good in the state but Highbridge Hills has many all on one site. A ton of work is involved in any one course. This is a giant project and we wish Mountain Man all the energy and luck needed to get this project up and running, and the harder part to maintain continued success.

Highbridge Hills Open by Northern Lights Disc Golf will be directed by Bryan Lagergren and assisted by Brooke Carlson. These folks operate a number of tournaments at Mont du Lac including Lake Superior Open, an A Tier on the WI Disc Golf Tour. Mont du Lac is similar as a large beautiful property. Bryan knows how to run big courses and big events. I am certain that at least two courses will be in prime condition for this tournament.
